Sydney to Hong Kong in 29 Days

OK. I'm doing it again. This is the classic Silversea cruise: a nice mix of sea days and varied interesting ports on a small ship that provides dairy free chocolate desserts to the lactose intolerant and free laundry to the addicted. The trip should be in good weather and a westbound track ensures a number of 25 hour days, always a good thing at these per diems. The cruise starts in temperate Sydney in the antipodal mid-summer, skirting the equator for most of the first cruise segment with stops to look at really big prehistoric lizards and 1200 year old Buddhist ruins (at Komodo and Borobudur respectively), visiting Bali and Singapore and then an extensive return cruise throughout Vietnam. (I did avoid a "boat ride" to there in the mid-1960s, but that's another story). The above graphic shows the 8400 mile route of the 382 maximum passenger Silver Whisper. The trip starts at a new moon in Sydney allowing for nice views of the upside down Orion* and lots of invisible to North America stellar objects during the first week.

*It and the waxing and then waning moon should erect by the cruise's end in Hong Kong if it doesn't rain, so to speak. The moon will be full but sideways around our two day stop in Singapore, making both the man and the rabbit appear to be reclining together. Make of that what you will, biblical reference as well as imagery skewed.
